We have secured the horn and prepared to initiate the ritual. Our comrades have worked with us to reclaim much of what was lost in terms of defensibility of the ruins of a once great stronghold of the daemon lord. The primitive boggards have proven to be useful and relatively loyal to us, although we have had to provide incentives to ensure that they stay at their assigned posts for the duration of their watch. They are capable hunters, however, and have obtained creatures useful for securing the caverns—we were pleasantly surprised when one group returned with a hydra. The preparations proved very effective when the first of what is sure to be a long line of would-be heroes dared to explore the lower levels. Although they were dispatched quickly and quite brutally, we were concerned that our response was not as effective and controlled as it should have been. Too many of our cadre was directly involved in the response to an incursion by what could best be described as a bunch of tavern patrons with ale-fueled bravado marching blithely into their own demise.
In the aftermath, we urged our compatriots to adjust our strategy and reinforce obvious points of weakness, which was done quickly and thoroughly. We were happy to come across budding assassin vines a few days later, revitalized by the pulsating magic of the ritual. We transplanted them along the stairway ascending to the second level, securing them with sturdy chain as they grew at an extraordinary pace, maturing in mere days instead of years. It was not long before the strategic placement of the vines yielded results. The adventuring party this time was clearly experienced, but were taken by surprised by the assassin vines. As they were preoccupied by the vines, we were able to dispatch the threat relatively quickly, even sparing the lives of a couple . This made the necromancer quite happy to have candidates for his juju ritual.
