We have found the Horn of Abaddon, the surrounding wilderness obscuring its presence as 80 years of growth has covered most of a once proud monument to the power of the daemon Vetra Kali. Our first encounter was an obstinate treant with a misplaced sense of duty and more than a little overconfidence. We are sure that it was surprised to feel our flames. With the nuisance of the treant dispatched, we turned our attention to the caverns at the base of the Horn. Again, the rogue went ahead to “scout” without consultation and without warning. We believe his “scouting” is simply an excuse to search areas without the group present. Again, actions belie an individual focus with the potential for undermining the success of the mission and a possible threat to the greater will of Asmodeus.
In the caverns, we came across a tribe of Boggards that had taken up residence in the lowermost reaches of the Horn. Their worship of “the Father” is evident throughout…the images clearly refer to Dagon, the demon lord of the sea. In our understanding of tribal cultures, a show of strength is often necessary in order to prove one worthy. To this end, we challenged the chieftain of the tribe…we must say that he was fearless, but his ultimate fate was to be expected when he did not yield. His blood provided us sustenance…and the victory resulted in our control of the members of the tribe as we defeated Kumanda Slays-Nine-Men in one-on-one combat. After consultation with Zikimo, their shaman, we determined that the tribe would make useful minions and labor. Their were minimal hindrances in securing the caverns, and we discovered information necessary for the ritual as well as a cache of skeletons that will provide the oracle the raw material for dozens of undead for defense of the Horn.
After a brief rest, we continued with our companions to the first level of the Horn fashioned by mortal hands. This level still bears the scars of the Mitran assault, and no threats of any significance were found. We were pleasantly surprised to come across a hidden treasure in the alchemy lab…lying on the work table was an inactive, but relatively intact alchemical golem. We have read about these wondrous creations before, but it is the first time we have seen a complete specimen with our own eyes. An exquisite amalgamation of alchemy and engineering, one which would prove to be a capable guardian if we are able to restore it.
